| 1969 | The Dartmouth Alternatives! Society was founded in 1969 in the basement of one of the dormitories at what was then called Colby Junior College. The details of its inception are somewhat hazy, but it is generally believed that the Society was created in order to advance the idea that the universe consisted of several gazillion different possibilities and that being limited to a single reality was boring, improbable, and somewhat impertinent. To this end, the membership has sought, through a variety of eclectic and deeply moving activities, to stimulate the synaptic passages of the All-Powerful Cleavant Derricks in the never-ending pursuit of the Universal Joke. |
